Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR-The RoughRiders and the Naturals combined for 10 runs in the first inning, but Frisco won the slugfest 9-6 Saturday night at Arvest Ballpark. Jared Prince went 2-for-3, smashing a pair of two-run homers, while Barret Loux (10-0) picked up his 10th consecutive win. He becomes the first pitcher in all of the minors or the majors to 10 victories.
In a game unlike any other this season, both teams combined for 10 runs in the first inning. Engel Beltre started the offensive bonanza, driving the second pitch he saw past Naturals rightfielder Paulo Orlando. Seeing Beltre digging for third, second baseman Rey Navarro airmailed the relay throw out of play, allowing Beltre to score.
Trailing 1-0, Naturals starter Chris Dwyer (3-5) proceeded to walk Jurickson Profar, before Mike Olt slammed his 10th home run of the season. Later in the inning Jared Prince added a 2-run shot to make it 5-0 RoughRiders.
However the lead would be short-lived, as Barret Loux allowed the first six batters to reach base. Eric Duncan, Mario Lisson, and Carlo Testa all recorded RBI singles, while Rey Navarro and Nick Van Stratten drove in runs later in the frame to tie the game at five.
In the first inning, 17 men came to the plate, while the only individual on either side that did not bat was "ËRiders catcher Jose Felix.
Frisco re-took the lead in the top of the third. Mike Olt opened the inning with a single, and scored three batters later on a triple by Leury Garcia. One pitch later, he trotted home on Jared Prince's second home run of night to make it 8-5. For the Washington State alum, it was his first multi-homer game of the season. Even more impressive, Prince matched his season longball total while seeing only three pitches.
Both clubs added a run in the sixth inning, but the "ËRiders bullpen shutout the Naturals over the final three frames, as the combination of Zach Osborne, Corey Young, and Ross Wolf allowed only a pair of runners to reach base.
Barrett Loux earned his 10th win of the season, despite allowing six runs over six innings. He surrendered nine hits and struck out seven. Chris Dwyer drew the loss for Northwest Arkansas. The southpaw went five innings, allowed eight runs (six earned), while also allowing nine hits. Ross Wolf picked up his first save of the year, working a perfect ninth.
The RoughRiders play game two of their series with the Naturals Sunday night. Jake Brigham (2-1, 2.98) gets the start for Frisco, he is opposed by Ethan Hollingsworth (0-1, 6.10). First pitch is slated for 6:05 and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 5:30.
Frisco returns home on May 30, when the Tulsa Drillers visit Dr Pepper Ballpark. To purchase tickets, fans can visit the box office, or buy online at ridersbaseball.com.
