
Early Runs Too Much for Mudcats

WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals scored three runs in the first inning, and held on for a 4-2 win in front of 5,116 on Sunday afternoon at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium.
The Mudcats (21-21) drop to .500 with the loss. The Nationals improve to 18-22.
The Nationals' Shane McCatty (1-0) earned the win by tossing an inning-and-a-third in relief. Starter Ryan Demmin finished after four scoreless frames. Neil Holland pitched the last two innings for his first save.
Mike Rayl (3-5) was hit for three runs in the first before settling in to toss six innings. Francisco Soriano scored the first run after drawing a one-out walk. The first baseman stole second and third, and scored on a throwing error.
Justin Bloxom launched a solo home run to left for a 2-0 lead. Michael Taylor followed with a double, and scored on single by Randolph Oduber. Oduber drove his second home run of the weekend series over the left field fence in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
Carolina got round tripper from Ronny Rodriguez to lead off the sixth. Delvi Cid doubled and scored on an error in the sixth to round out the scoring.
The Mudcats begin a three game series against the Frederick Keys Monday at 7:00 p.m. The team returns home on Friday, May 25, to host the Winston-Salem Dash. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
