Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: It had not happened in the first 19 seasons of Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball, but the Rocks were finally no-hit in a Carolina League game. Nick Tepesch (2-3) and Jimmy Reyes of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans turned the feat in a 3-0 victory over Wilmington at Frawley Stadium on Saturday night. Tepesch tossed 7.1 while Reyes finished it off for his first save.

REMEMBER WHEN?: The Blue Rocks were no-hit in nine innings for the first time in team history on Saturday night. The Blue Rocks have thrown one nine inning no-hitter in the franchise's history. It came on May 2, 2000 when Brian Sanches went nine innings without giving up a hit against the Lynchburg Hillcats at Frawley Stadium. He struck out 11 batters and walked two in a 5-0 Rocks win. Sanches has since appeared in 192 career big league games for the Phillies, Nationals and Marlins. That includes three outings with this year's Phils. He is currently with Triple-A Lehigh Valley (IL).

501 BLUES: While they had never been no-hit in nine innings, the Blue Rocks had suffered a seven inning no-hitters before. That came on June 19, 2009 care of Winston-Salem Dash starter Levi Maxwell at Frawley Stadium. That milestone improved his record and ERA to 2-8 and 4.82, respectively. He was out of baseball after he finished the year at 5-14 with a 4.54 ERA.

WITH VERY LITTLE HELP FROM HIS FRIENDS: Jason Adam continues to get no run support from his teammates. Blue Rocks batters have scored 22 runs in the nine games he has started. That averages to 2.4 runs per game. Of his nine starts, he has left the game with his team trailing six times and tied twice. Only once has he left a ballgame with the lead. That came on April 23 at Salem in his only victory of the season.

PUTTING IT IN PERSPECTIVE: Adam suffered his sixth loss of the campaign. Last season, he did not receive his sixth loss until July 22 when he dropped a decision at West Michigan.

UNLUCKY NO. 13: In nine starts on the season when Adam has departed the total number of runs that have been on the board in his favor? Thirteen. That includes heading to the clubhouse with no runs next to Wilmington's name four times.

RUBBER OR GLUE?: The Rocks have yet to pick up a series after splitting the first two games of a three-game set. So far in 2012 they are 0-3 in rubber matches.

TIME TO EAT THE DONUTS: With the no-hitter, the Blue Rocks were shut out for the sixth time this season, which leads the Carolina League. This one comes four days after Lynchburg defeated them 1-0 in Virginia on Tuesday. The team is on pace to suffer 20 shutout setbacks this season. The franchise record for scoring frustration is 15, set by the 2001 Blue Crew.

NO-HITTER REFLECTIONS: Two Blue Rocks in fairly recent time have gone from the Riverfront to a big league no-hitter within a year. Anibal Sanchez was one of the few bright spots for the 60-80 Blue Rocks in 2005. On Sept. 6, 2006, in just his 13th career big league start, he ended the longest no-hitter drought in MLB history as his Marlins beat the Diamondbacks, 2-0. The very next year, Wilmington's 2006 ace, Clay Buchholz, turned a similar trick. In just his second start as a big leaguer, Buchholz held the Orioles hitless as Boston beat Baltimore 10-0 on Sept. 1, 2007.
