Frederick Keys News Release

SALEM, VA - Up 2-0 entering the seventh inning, the Keys could not hang on for a sweep of the Salem Red Sox, as they allowed the opposition to score three times in the frame, eventually allowing Salem to win 3-2.

All three runs came against relief pitcher David Walters, who is charged with the blown save and loss as his record slips to 0-4 with a 7.63 ERA.

Starting pitcher Kyle Simon prevented Salem from scoring for six consecutive frames, giving up just two hits in that span. During the three-game series, Salem didn't score once on the Keys starting pitchers of Mike Wright, Trent Howard, and Kyle Simon. Not only did the Keys starting pitchers keep them off the scoreboard, but they limited the league's best hitting team to go just 7-for-57 against them - a mere .123 average.

Salem, although unable to score on Simon, did get through against Walters. In that seventh inning, Jackie Bradley Jr. started things off with a single. After reaching second on a wild pitch, Sean Coyle singled him home to cut the Keys' lead to one.

A walk to Travis Shaw put two runners on base, and after a double-steal put both runners in scoring position, Xander Bogaerts hit them both home with a two-RBI single that gave Salem a 3-2 lead.

The Keys were unable to come back thereafter.

The Keys originally held a 2-0 lead in the game thanks to Michael Mosby. After a walk to Johnny Ruettiger and single from Jeremy Nowak put two runners on board, Mosby gave the Keys the lead when he tripled to right field and brought both runners home.

Unfortunately, the 2-0 lead would not last as Salem came back in the seventh.

The Keys now head back home to take on the Carolina Mudcats for the first time ever at Harry Grove Stadium. To see the Mudcats in person, fans can get tickets by calling the box office at 301-815-3393.

RHP Justin Moore (0-4, 7.80 ERA) is expected to start against Carolina's Will Roberts (1-2, 4.30 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM and live coverage starts at 6:40 on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
