Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
The RailCats let a 2-0 lead slip away in the eighth and ninth innings as the Saints' Jose Hernandez hit a walk-off single in the ninth to defeat the RailCats 3-2.
Gary had a runner in scoring position with nobody out in both the first and third but did not score. They capitalized in the fourth inning. Jason James hit a one-out double to right and Kyle Haines followed with an RBI single to center to put the RailCats on top 1-0.
The score stayed that way until the eighth. Chris Carrara reached on an infield single and scored on an RBI double to left by Adam Klein to make it 2-0. The 'Cats would load the bases with one out but could not add on.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Saints hit three straight singles off of RailCats reliever Chad Rhoades to pull within 2-1. Will Krout came on for the ninth and was met by four straight singles. Ole Sheldon tied the game on an RBI single and then came home to score the winning run on the single by Hernandez. Krout took the loss after recording the save on Thursday with a scoreless inning and two-thirds.
Game three of the four-game series will be on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Andrew Johnston will take the hill for the RailCats.
