San Bernardino, CA - Inland Empire 3rd baseman Brian Hernandez is the Angels' defensive player of the month for April. In 17 games in the opening month of the season Hernandez did not commit an error in 51 total chances, and went from infield reserve to a steadfast member of the lineup.

"It feels really cool," said Hernandez. "The Angels are really big on defense, they always say defense first, so this is a really big honor." Hernandez is the first 66ers recipient of a monthly award from the Angels.

Midway through May, Hernandez has committed just two errors on the season, and is still the California League leader in defensive fielding percentage among third baseman. He has also done well with his bat for the squad, hitting in the clean up roll for the majority of the month. He is batting .282 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 36 total games this season.

Inland Empire is in a six game homestand against division rivals Lancaster and Rancho Cucamonga. The homestand includes Military Appreciation Night presented by the California Air National Guard on Saturday, May 19th, featuring a 66ers camouflage cap giveaway.. Tickets can be purchased both at the 66ers box office and online at www.66ers.com .
