
Plagman Big Night Leads to Erie Win

The SeaWolves once again used the long ball as they belted out a season-high four jacks in an 11-6 win over the Altoona Curve on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park. The SeaWolves have now won a season-high four straight games and are back at the .500 mark at 17-17.
Altoona struck first in the top of the first against Erie starter James Avery. Robbie Grossman led off with a double and scored on a two-out Charlie Cutler single for a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, Erie tied the game when Niuman Romero led off and blasted an opposite-field home run off of Curve starter Brandon Cumpton. The home run was his fourth of the season.
The Curve promptly regained the lead in the top of the second. With two outs, Greg Picart walked and Grossman followed with a two-run home run making it 3-1 Curve.
Erie got one back in the last of the second when, with one out, Tony Plagman slammed a solo home run to right, his fourth, making it 3-2.
The 'Wolves took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Ben Guez led off and reached on an error. Plagman followed and belted a two-run home run to right making it 4-2 'Wolves.
Erie extended the lead in the fifth. Romero led off and singled. He scored on a Jordan Lennerton double making it 5-3. Plagman singled home Lennerton on a broken bat liner to right for a 6-3 Erie edge.
Erie continued to build its lead in the sixth against the Curve bullpen. Jamie Johnson led off and stole second. Romero singled putting runners on the corners. Lennerton walked, loading the bases for Guez. Guez was hit by a pitch, plating Johnson for a 7-3 lead. Plagman followed and quickly unloaded an opposite-field grand slam for an 11-3 lead. Plagman finished the day with eight RBI.
The Curve would add a run in the seventh and two in the ninth, but could get no closer as the 'Wolves won 11-6.
Avery (5-2) earned the win allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts in five innings of work. He improved to 2-0 against the Curve.
The SeaWolves look for a series sweep and to extend the winning streak on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park.1:35 First Pitch. LHP Kelvin De La Cruz (1-4, 4.50 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Kris Johnson (0-0, 2.08 ERA).
