Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers looked like a well-oiled machine on Friday evening in a 9-1 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Lancaster received a top notch pitching effort from John Halama, three hits each from Fehlandt Lentini and Emerson Frostad and a pair of double plays on defense in the victory played in front of 6,690.
Halama (2-1) checked the Blue Crabs on six hits, five of which were ground balls, over eight innings. The left-hander walked one and struck out six before giving way to Jason Urquidez in the ninth. The only run was unearned as shortstop Jaime Pedroza mishandled a feed from Brad Boyer on a force play attempt in the seventh inning.
A 10-pitch at bat by Terry Tiffee off Nick Green (1-1) resulting in a leadoff single set the tone for a three-run Lancaster second. One out later, Boyer walked. Lentini spanked a single into right which bounced past Brian Barton to the warning track, allowing two runs to score and Lentini to advance to third. Pedroza brought the third run in with a sacrifice fly to left.
A solo homer to right center by Tiffee in third third stretched the lead to 4-0, and the Barnstormers were able to break the game open in the sixth.
Jesus Merchan drew a walk to open the inning. Christian Lopez tried to pick him off first but skipped the throw into right field, giving the Barnstormers an extra base. Boyer lashed a single into center to score the run, and he, in turn, raced home on Lentini's double into the left field corner that chased Green. Frostad added a double to the gap in right center for a 7-0 lead, and Blake Gailen capped the inning with a single to right center off reliever Ricky Barrett.
Merchan and Lentini teamed up again in the seventh to produce Lancaster's final run of the night.
The Barnstormers will entertain Southern Maryland again on Saturday at 7:00. J.D. Durbin (0-1) will hit the mound for Lancaster while Matthew Vasquez gets the nod for the Blue Crabs. Fireworks will follow. The game will be aired on WLAN, 1390-AM and on 1390wlan.com, starting at 6:45.
