York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution dropped the opening game of their twi-night doubleheader, 4-2 in seven innings to the Long Island Ducks at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY on Thursday evening.
Ryan Garko gave Long Island a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a home run to right field, and Dan Lyons made it a 3-0 game with an RBI single to left an inning later.
Chris Nowak's fourth inning sacrifice fly put the Revs on the board, but the Ducks answered right back as Lew Ford doubled, stole third, and scored on a passed ball to make it 4-1 in the fourth.
Andres Perez blooped an RBI single to right-center in the sixth, bringing York back within two runs.
Bob Zimmermann (2-0) earned the win for the Ducks in the opener lasting six innings. Only one of the two runs he allowed was earned.
Chris Cody (0-3) suffered the loss for York, charged with four runs (three earned) in his four innings of work.
Jon Meloan earned his fourth save, and second of the series.
GAME TWO:
Michael Hernandez homered and drove in five as the York Revolution offense came alive, but Long Island enjoyed their biggest offensive night of the season with a 16-9 win in the nightcap of Thursday's twi-night doubleheader, sweeping both the doubleheader and the series from the Revs in front of 4,852 fans at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY. The Revs will return home to open a weekend series against the Somerset Patriots on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
Hernandez hammered a three-run homer to straightaway center in the third inning, briefly tying for the league lead with his fourth home run of the season, but it came with the Revs already trailing 5-0.
Ryan Garko gave Long Island a first inning lead in both games of Thursday's doubleheader, providing an RBI single in game two, and Lew Ford followed by driving in a second run on a fielder's choice.
The Ducks then took advantage of two walks and a York error, plating three more in the second. Bryant Nelson picked up an RBI on a groundball to first base that was mishandled by Ramon Castro allowing the first two runs to score, and Brandon Sing added a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
Long Island answered Hernandez' three-run blast with a four-spot in their half of the third. Ford homered to left-center on the first pitch of the inning, and Wilberto Ortiz later added an RBI double, Dan Lyons picked up an RBI single, and Kraig Binick capped off the rally with a sacrifice fly, pushing the Ducks ahead by a 9-3 margin.
Andres Perez nailed a home run leading off the fourth inning for the Revs and Stephen Douglas added a sacrifice fly to make it 9-5, but Danny Gonzalez just missed a three-run homer that would have brought the Revs within one, lining out deep to the warning track in left field.
Long Island effectively put the game away with a seven-run fifth inning. Lyons crossed the plate with the first run on a throwing error, before Nelson singled home another run and Sing crushed a two-run homer to left, reclaiming sole possession of the league-lead with his fifth home run. Ortiz later ripped a two-run single and Lyons drove in another on an infield hit.
The Revs scored the game's final four runs in the sixth inning courtesy of an RBI double to right-center by Joe Spiers, a wild pitch that plated Salvador Paniagua, and a two-run double to deep center by Hernandez.
Wynn Pelzer (1-0) was awarded the win for Long Island with a scoreless fifth inning in relief, while Omar Javier (0-2) suffered the loss for York, charged with eight runs (seven earned) in two innings.
The Revs will look to rebound back at home on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. with the first of a weekend series against Somerset. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Back to Back Atlantic League Championship Cap giveaway presented by OSS. It's also Soccer Night with a pregame skills clinic put on by the Harrisburg City Islanders. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
