(Sugar Land, TX) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters on Friday night in the first game ever between the two franchises.

The Ducks got on the scoreboard first in the second inning against Skeeters starter Matt Wright. Lew Ford tripled and came home to score on a RBI single by James McOwen. Sugar Land tied it at one in the fifth against Ducks starter Randy Keisler. Ofilio Castro doubled and came home to score on a fielding error.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when Jason Botts walked to lead off the inning. He then stole second and came around to score on a RBI single to right by Castro off Ducks reliever Connor Graham.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Keisler gave up one unearned run on two hits in five innings, while Wright tossed seven innings of one-run ball, allowing eight hits with four strikeouts. Gary Majewski (1-0) got the win, tossing two scoreless innings of relief, and Graham (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing the winning run in two-thirds of an inning.

Ford and McOwen each had two hits to lead the Ducks at the plate.
