Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - This Saturday, May 12, the wives and girlfriends of Sacramento River Cats players will take part in the 13th annual Players' Wives' Food Drive at Raley Field, beginning at 5 p.m.
The Players' Wives Food Drive was initiated during the 2000 season by Pam Geren, wife of former River Cats and A's manager Bob Geren. On Saturday, fans are encouraged to make food, diaper or monetary donations in front of the home plate entrance at Raley Field beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. against the Iowa Cubs.
Fans who make a monetary donation of $20 or more will receive an autographed River Cats trading card set, with money raised going toward the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. Fans who donate cash or canned goods will also receive a River Cats voucher for any Monday through Wednesday game for the rest of the 2012 regular season. In its first 12 years, the Players' Wives' Food Drive collected more than 50,000 pounds of food and $50,000 for local families. Donations collected this year will again be distributed among Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services locations.
In addition to Saturday's Players' Wives' Food Drive, this weekend also brings the annual Mother's Day celebration to Raley Field. This year, as part of the Bling Fling, one lucky fan will win a pair of .25 carat diamonds and 499 fans will win two .25 carat cubic zirconias courtesy of Windsor Diamonds. All winners can visit Windsor Diamonds at 618 East Bidwell Street in Folsom, CA, to check the authenticity of their bling.
The Cats' next home game is Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Omaha Storm Chasers, with their four-game series against the Iowa Cubs set for Saturday through Tuesday at Raley Field.
