Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Sacramento, CA - Luke Hughes and Brandon Moss each drove in a pair of runs as Sacramento took advantage of a season-high six Omaha errors in a 9-4 victory Thursday night in the third of a four-game set at Rayley Field. The Storm Chasers saw their record dip to 22-13 after a third straight loss in what was their largest margin of defeat this season.
Sacramento bunched two hits, a walk, a fielder's choice grounder and three errors to score two times in the home first but the lead didn't last very long at all. Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled in two runs with the bases loaded before Anthony Seratelli scored on a wild pitch to put the visitors on top in the next half inning. Cody Clark then capped the four-run uprising with a sacrifice fly that plated Kouzmanoff, who spent part of last season playing for the River Cats.
A run-scoring single from Moss in the third and a misplayed fly ball by David Lough in the fourth allowed the hosts to get the game tied. Omaha starter Mike Montgomery endured five errors behind him and was also hit by a line drive but battled through five frames and ended his outing by setting down the last seven hitters he faced. The southern California native gave up four hits, walked three, struck out four and did not allow an earned run in a no-decision.
Stephen Parker greeted Ethan Hollingsworth with a lead off triple in the sixth and scored on a Hughes fly ball to put the River Cats back in front for good at 5-4. Collin Cowgill would walk with two outs in the inning, steal second, move to third on a wild pitch then score on another wild offering to increase the Sacramento lead to a pair. Hughes and Jeff Fiorentino singled in runs during a three-run seventh against Francisley Bueno to account for the final margin.
The series wraps up Friday night with Omaha left-hander Will Smith getting the starting nod against Sacramento southpaw Fabio Castro. Coverage of the game gets underway at 8:45 pm and can be heard locally on AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
