Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The old saying is, "what goes around comes around." Sunday afternoon proved that theory true at Ashford University Field as the Burlington Bees shut out the Clinton LumberKings, 2-0. The Bees shutout follows a shutout hurled by Clinton left-hander Jordan Shipers on Saturday night.

Right-handers Raul Alcantara, Nate Kilcrease and Max Perlman combined to blank the LumberKings on just four hits. Alcantara, 19, started the game and worked six scoreless frames. He gave up three hits and three walks but helped himself by getting three double plays in the first five innings. Kilcrease worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the Bees before giving way to Perlman who worked the final two frames. Steve Baron made things interesting with a two-out single in the ninth but Jharmidy De Jesus' fly ball to left came up short.

The scoring started for Burlington in the fourth inning. B.A. Vollmuth led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a ground out by Dusty Robinson. Doug Landaeta then hit a fly ball to Jamal Austin in center that proved just deep enough as Vollmuth beat the throw home to make it 1-0.

John Nester reached on an error by De Jesus to start the fifth and moved to third on a ground out by Eliezer Mesa. He came down to score on a fielder's choice by Chih-Fang Pan and it was 2-0. That's all the Bees would need as they evened up the four-game series. Alcantara picked up his second consecutive win as he improved to 2-3 and Brett Shankin took the loss for Clinton, dropping to 0-2.

The two teams play game three on Monday night in Clinton. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM. Left-hander Cameron Hobson (0-5, 4.65) takes the mound for the LumberKings and right-hander Sean Murphy (2-2, 1.57) goes for the Bees.
