Redbirds Fetch Win in Walk-Off Fashion

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis rallied by Omaha, erasing a two-run, eighth-inning deficit to win 5-4 Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park during Bark in the Ballpark. Over 200 dogs attended Bark in the Ballpark and all 11 canines from the Memphis Animal Shelter were adopted.

After the Redbirds rallied for two runs in the seventh to take their first lead of the game, the Storm Chasers drove in three in the eighth and were back on top. With two out and two on in the bottom of the ninth, Pete Kozma stepped up to bat and drove in the winning runs, hitting one over the left field wall on 2-1 pitch. Cedric Hunter drove in two runs on the night while both Eugenio Velez and Amaury Cazana each had a pair of hits.

Barret Browning earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning for the Redbirds. Francisley Bueno took the loss for Omaha, giving up three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. Memphis starter Joe Kelly was strong in his second home start, allowing only one run on seven hits over six innings while walking two and striking out three.

Memphis welcomes Iowa to town tomorrow night for the first game of a four-game series. The 'Birds are slated to send right-hander Shelby Miller to the hill to face southpaw Travis Wood with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tomorrow the Boardwalk, that includes an updated batting cage, a new Redbird Race, a new Base Slider and a new Rockey Belly Bouncer, will be free all night, excluding prizes.
