Tacoma Rainiers News Release

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Rainiers early lead proved too little to counter Las Vegas' big night at the plate in Tacoma's 15-5 loss to the 51s at Cashman Field on Saturday.

Tacoma jumped out to a 2-0 edge in the top of the first inning thanks to Mike Carp's two-run double, but the 51s answered back to take the lead with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame. First baseman David Cooper notched an RBI-single and Travis d'Arnaud tallied the go-ahead runs with a two-out, two-run home run two batters later.

Las Vegas took an insurmountable 12-2 lead after scoring nine runs on eight hits over the second and third innings. Tacoma allowed three more runs over the fifth and sixth en route giving up a season-high 15 runs in the contest.

Seven different Rainiers collected a hit on Saturday, with Carp and catcher Brandon Bantz each producing a pair of RBI. Infielder Scott Savastano extended his hitting streak to five games after lining a single in the second inning.

Starter Mauricio Robles (0-3) struggled through the fourth start of his 2012 campaign. The left-hander surrendered eight runs on six hits and issued four walks over just 2.0 innings of action.

Reliever Brian Sweeney gave up six runs over 3.0 frames, and Chance Ruffin gave up another over 1.2 innings out of the bullpen. Right-hander Scott Patterson tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in the ninth in his first appearance with Tacoma this season.

The Rainiers (9-15) take the field hoping for a series split at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 in the club's finale at Las Vegas. Right-hander Forrest Snow (0-2, 7.23) is slated to get the start for Tacoma against right-hander Scott Richmond (1-2, 8.59) for the 51s.
