Greenville Drive News Release
Salisbury, MD - Madison Younginer faced the minimum number of batters over his final four innings, retiring the final 11 batters he faced, Thursday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. However, it was the first seven Delmarva Shorebirds (11-9) that gave the right-hander fits, plating four runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 5-1 victory over the Drive (8-12).
Each of the first four batters reached base safely for Delmarva, including a two-run single by Gabriel Lino. Nick Delmonico added an RBI-single of his own, and the Shorebirds secured an early four-run advantage when the second baseman came around to score on Blake Swihart's throwing error.
It appeared as if Greenville would counter in the top of the second, loading the bases with only one out. However, Delmarva's Parker Bridwell (2-0) was able to get out of the jam when he struck out Nick Natoli and induced Cody Koback to hit into an inning-ending groundout.
Younginer (0-2) was nearly flawless from the second through the fourth innings, allowing only one base runner when Glynn Davis drew a two-out walk. He was quickly erased, however, when Swihart gunned him down trying to swipe second.
The former Mauldin High School standout, Younginer finished his outing by surrendering four runs - three earned - on four hits and two walks over 5.0 innings, while striking out five. Having joined the Drive on Tuesday, Scott Swinson allowed a run over the final three innings.
Bidwell, along with Jake Cowan, limited Greenville to just three hits in combining on the magnificent performance on the mound. A product of Towson University, Natoli knocked in the Drive's only run in front of friends and family when he lifted a sacrifice fly, bringing home Henry Ramos.
The Drive and Shorebirds conclude their four-game series on Friday, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Left-hander Mickey Pena (1-2, 3.07 ERA) will head to the mound for Greenville looking to earn a series split, while Delmarva counters with right-hander Tyler Wilson (2-1, 3.38 ERA).
The Drive return home to Greenville on Wednesday, May 2nd, beginning a seven-game home stand with the Lexington Legends. For more information, or to purchase single-game tickets, group outings or luxury accommodations, please call (864) 240-4500 or log onto GreenvilleDrive.com.
