Charleston RiverDogs News Release
LEXINGTON, KY - The first place Charleston RiverDogs (15-4) came up short in their attempt to extend their win streak to 11 games with a 5-2 loss to the Lexington Legends (9-12) on Thursday. Charleston leads the series 2-1 with the finale coming up on Friday evening.
Tyler Austin (3-4, double, HR, 2 runs) homered for the second consecutive day for Charleston, and scored on an RBI single by Dante Bichette, Jr. Unfortunately, he was the only player to cross the plate for the RiverDogs. Charleston led 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but Lexington turned it around in that frame.
The lead off man in the sixth Justin Gominsky reached on an error by Charleston SS Anderson Feliz, then a walk to Jordan Scott brought up Zach Johnson with nobody out. He doubled down the LF line plating both Gominsky and Scott and tying the game at two. Zachary Varce then came in and relieved starter Scottie Allen, but couldn't keep it tied. Lexington scored three more runs on another walk, a catcher's interference, and some timely base hits. Allen got tagged with the loss falling to 1-2 on the year allowing four hits and three runs/one earned and 2 hits with three strikeouts. Reliever Jason Chowing picked up the victory to move to 1-1 after tossing one and a third scoreless inning with two walks and two strikeouts.
The series finale will be on Friday with the RiverDogs looking to secure a series victory with a win. RHP Will Oliver (1-1, 1.69 ERA) is starting for Charleston and LHP Luis Cruz (0-1, 6.93 ERA) starting for Lexington. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
