Storm Season Ends in Waterloo Tuesday Night

WATERLOO, Iowa - Despite rallying after being down 3-0 in the first period, D Kenny Brooks' two goals led the Tri-City Storm's come from behind effort that fell short to the Waterloo Blacks Hawks 3-2. With the loss, the Storm season ends in the first round of the 2012 Clark Cup Playoffs, losing 2-0 in the best-of-three first round.

The Black Hawks scored three goals in the first 10:19 into the game, as RW Aaron Pearce, LW Taylor Cammarata and RW Mark Naclerio each scored for Waterloo to take a 3-0 lead near the middle of the first period. Naclerio's goal was scored on a Black Hawks power play at the 10:19 mark and was the eventual game-winning goal. Waterloo also outshot the Storm 17-5 in the first 20 minutes.

The Storm responded on Brooks' first goal of the game 33 seconds into the second period with LW Trevor Moore and RW Joshua Henke assisting on the goal.

Brooks scored again early into the third period to pull the Storm to within one goal with his third-career post-season goal at the 2:17 mark. LW Thomas Nykopp made a pass between the legs through to Brooks at the left-point, as RW Michael Vecchione earned the second assist on the goal.

The Storm generated several last second scoring chances, but the season came to an end as time ran out. The Black Hawks advanced to the second round against Omaha by holding on for the one goal win.

G Adam Wilcox (0-2) made 28 saves on 31 shots in the loss for the Storm, while G Stephon Williams (2-0) made 24 saves on 26 shots receiving the win for the Black Hawks.

Tri-City finished the game 0-for-5 on the power play, while going 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Next up for the Storm is the USHL Futures Draft on May 1 and Entry Draft on May 22.

Notes: The Storm's last win in the playoffs was on April 30, 2007 (3-2 win) in Game 7 against Sioux City at the Viaero Event Center. The Storm have lost seven-consecutive games in the post season dating back to the 2007 Clark Cup Playoffs. Tri-City's last win in Waterloo was on Oct. 20, 2007 (4-3 OT) and have gone now 10-consecutive (eight in the regular season) games without a win at Young Arena. D Dylan Maller and RW Andrew Dorantes sat out of the game and series due to injury. Brooks, Nick Lappin, Brad Schierhorn, J.D. Peterson and Wilcox are all set to move on next season to college hockey
