Bakersfield Jam News Release
BAKERSFIELD, March 1, 2012 - Derrick Byars led the Jam with a double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds to defeat the Skyforce with a final score of 115-102. Bakersfield improves to 19-16 on the season while Sioux Falls drops to 9-26.
Bakersfield got out to an early 15-6 lead to begin the game but Sioux Falls managed to control the Jam's strong start as they cut down the lead to three points to end the first period (30-27). The Jam dominated the second quarter as they put up 40 points on 66.7% shooting from the field, compared to Skyforce's 23 points on 38.1% shooting. With great team effort, Bakersfield ended the first half leading 70-50 with 19 assists on 26 field goals made and only turned the ball over five times. However, the Jam did not carry their second quarter momentum to begin the second half as the Skyforce stormed out of the gates and went on a 15-3 run to start the third period and cut the Jam's lead of 23 ponts to nine to end the third period (89-80). Bakersfield was able to withstand Sioux Falls' run and momentum in the third as they started the fourth period on a 12-3 run and ultimately sealed the victory on the road.
Juan Pattillo led the Jam off the bench with 23 points and seven rebounds while Adrian Thomas contributed 14 points and made 4-of-7 from three-point land. Renaldo Major had 17 points and Adam Koch added 10 points on the night.
Sioux Falls had five players scoring in double figures led by Trey Gilder (25) and Marcus Blakely (21).
Bakersfield will continue their road trip and begin a two game series with Reno on Saturday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. PT at the Reno Events Center.
