Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland's Cam Reid picked up his first career hat trick as he led the Winterhawks (37-15-2-1) to a 7-2 road win over the Seattle Thunderbirds (19-34-1-0) Saturday.

Reid also had an assist as he finished with four points on the night. Sven Bartschi, Oliver Gabriel and Brendan Leipsic all had three points in Portland's win.

With the win in goal, Hawks netminder Mac Carruth picked up his 34th win of the season, leaving him one shy of the franchise record for wins in a season by a goaltender. Brent Belecki set the record with 35 victories in the 1997-98 season. It was also Carruth's 79th career win, tying him with Belecki for second all-time among Hawks netminders.

The Hawks scored twice in the first period with goals from Reid and Leipsic to take a 2-0 lead in a period in which the Hawks tripled Seattle's shot total, 18-6.

After Seattle's Burke Gallimore scored 2:22 into the second to cut Portland's lead to 2-1, the Hawks scored four straight goals to open a big lead they'd never relinquish. They got two goals 20 seconds apart from Reid and Gabriel to go up 4-1 at the 5:30 mark, then followed with two more later in the period from Bartschi and Ty Rattie, the latter on a power play, to go up 6-1. After Rattie's goal, the Thunderbirds replaced starting netminder Calvin Pickard with backup Daniel Cotton.

Reid completed the hat trick with a power play goal at the 7:04 mark of the third to give the Hawks a 7-1 lead. Seattle's Luke Lockhart scored a power play goal at the 9:40 mark, rounding out the scoring in Portland's 7-2 win.

The Hawks finished with a 48-20 advantage in shots on goal. Carruth made 18 saves in the victory. Pickard allowed six goals on 31 shots, while Cotton finished with 16 saves on 17 shots.

Portland finished 2-4 on the power play and 1-2 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks are back in action at home Wednesday when they host the Tri-City Americans at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
