Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants lost 4-2 to the Everett Silvertips Saturday night at Comcast Arena in Everett. The loss snapped the Giants 9 game winning streak vs. the Silvertips.
Coming off a emotional, feisty affair Friday night in Vancouver, it only took 13 seconds for the first penalties of the game to be called. It would be a sign of things to come in the fifth of six meetings this year between the Giants and Silvertips. Just after the Giants killed off a penalty, the Silvertips would keep the momentum and Cody Fowlie beat Adam Morrison to put the home side up 1-0. That is how things would stand through 20 minutes.
The Giants didn't waste anytime evening the score in the 2nd period as Marek Tvrdon set up Neil Manning for his 7th goal of the year. Manning was playing in his 295th career regular season game as a member of the Vancouver Giants, tieing him with former captain Craig Cunningham for the franchise record for regular season games played. Just under six minutes later the Giants would take their first lead of the night on the power play; David Musil's slap shot beat Kent Simpson for his 2nd goal of the year to put Vancouver up 2-1. However, the Giants would take a penalty after the goal and then Musil ended up getting a double minor for high sticking to put the Giants two men short. Everett would score the equalizer just as the 5-on-3 expired and then the go ahead goal just as Musil stepped out the box to give the Silvertips a 3-2 lead after two periods. The Giants outshot Everett 19-12 in the frame.
In the third period, the Giants put the pressure on, firing 14 shots on net, but they could not beat Simpson. The Silvertips would add a late goal with Morrison trying to get to the bench for an extra attacker to make it a 4-2 to final. The Giants finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while Everett went 1-for-5. Final shots were 43-28 in favour of Vancouver. Both teams finished the night with 48 penalty minutes each.
The Giants are back in action Tuesday February 14 for a Valentine's Day date with the Tri-City Americans. Game time is 7:05 pm in Kennewick, Washington. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
