Everett Silvertips News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - The Everett Silvertips fell just short of closing a successful road trip with a win Friday night, suffering a 3-2 setback to the Vancouver Giants at Pacific Coliseum in the first game of a home-and-home set between the teams. Vancouver has now won all four head-to-head matchups between the clubs this year by a single goal.

Jari Erricson and Reid Petryk each scored a goal and assisted on the other for Everett, who lost for just the second time on a six-game road swing. Vancouver scored three times between those goals however and then played a strong defensive game the rest of the way to deny the Silvertips a comeback. The teams also combined for 82 penalty minutes in a chippy contest that featured four fights.

Everett grabbed the game's first goal as Reid Petryk and Josh Birkholz helped set up a rebound tap-in for Jari Erricson at 12:23. The lead wouldn't last long however, as Brendan Gallagher sped down the left boards before rifling a perfect shot over Kent Simpson's shoulder to tie the game just over one minute later. The Giants then carried a 2-1 edge into the locker room after Neil Manning's backhand powerplay goal from between the hash marks with less than four minutes remaining.

The teams traded six powerplay chances and spent time at 4-on-4 during a penalty-filled second frame. Just after the 'Tips had denied an odd-man opportunity, Vancouver added to the lead when Cain Franson picked up a loose puck in the circle and quickly shot it inside the near post to take a 3-1 edge into the third.

Everett struggled to get pucks to the net early in the final period, but kept the Giants from adding to the lead to give themselves a chance late. With Kent Simpson on the bench for an extra attacker in the final minute, Petryk ripped home a rebound during a scramble in front of Adam Morrison's net to draw Everett back within one. The final 30 seconds would not result in another score though in Vancouver's 3-2 win.

Kent Simpson (12-25-1-5) saw his personal four-game win streak end despite a 28-save effort. Adam Morrison (28-11-1-1) stopped 21 shots as the Giants outshot the 'Tips 31-23. Vancouver won the special teams battle with one goal on three powerplay chances and Everett finishing 0 for 5.

With their six-game road swing now complete, the Silvertips will return home to Everett to finish this weekend's two-game set with the Giants in front of their home crowd at 7:05 pm Saturday night at Comcast Arena.

Silvertips group tickets and flex ticket packages can be purchased in person at the team office inside at Comcast Arena or by phone at 425-252-5100. Single game tickets are on sale by phone (866-332-8499), online ( www.comcastarenaeverett.com ) or at the Comcast Arena box office.
