Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings snapped a 6-game home ice losing streak and in the process, climbed to within a single point of the seventh place Regina Pats Friday night with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Swift Current Broncos at Westman Place.

The Wheat Kings, who hadn't won on home ice since December 28th, scored the first two goals of the game, took a 3-1 lead to the dressing room after forty minutes of play and cruised to the win before close to 4,600 satisfied fans.

Swiss importAlessio Bertaggia scored twice for the Wheat Kings, who ran their win streak to three games, whileDarian Dziurzynskiadded a goal and two helpers.

Ryan Pulock, Kevin Sundher andMichael Ferlandrounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who outshot the Broncos 41-31 including 19-7 in the second period.

Richard Nedomiel, Taylor VauseandDillon Heatherington replied for the Broncos, who have won just one of seven games against the Wheat Kings this season.

Corbin Boes made 28 saves, including a number of big ones when the game was close to pick up the win whileAustin Smithturned aside 35 in the Swift Current net.

With the win, Brandon improves its record to 28-25-1-2 and remain four points up on the ninth place Red Deer Rebels in the WHL's Eastern Conference. Red Deer kept pace with the Wheat Kings on Friday night with a 2-0 victory in Cranbrook.

With sixteen games remaining in the regular season, the Wheat Kings will now hit the road for a three game tour of the Central Division, beginning with a game against the Tigers in Medicine Hat on Sunday night. Brandon will close out the trip with games in Cranbrook and Lethbridge on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Wheat Kings next home action is next weekend when they play host to the Prince Albert Raiders in a 2-game series at Westman Place.
