Tri-City Storm News Release
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Sioux City Musketeers got outstanding games from goaltender Matt Skoff and LW Nikita Sirotkin to end the Tri-City Storm's three-game winning streak Friday night at the Tyson Events Center, as the Storm fell 4-1. The loss keeps the Storm one point back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
After a scoreless first period, Sioux City (16-22-0, 32 pts - 5th in Western Conference) scored the opening goal at the 15:27 mark in the second period on a deflected shot by Sirotkin on D Cliff Watson's slap shot from the blue line.
LW Maxim Gaudreault would get setup by RW Tim O'Brien to push the Musketeers lead to 2-0. The goal by Gaudreault would stand as the eventual game-winning goal for Sioux City at the 6:42 mark in the third period.
Less than two minutes later, Tri-City (14-24-0, 28 pts - Tied-7th in Western Conference) scored their lone goal on C Tim Bonner's 13th goal of the season from LW Jared Linnell and D Bryan Sinz. It was the 10th point (3g, 7a) of the season for Linnell.
However, the Musketeers would score once more on C David Henry's seventh goal of the season at the 10:35 mark in the third period and added an empty-net goal by Sirotkin with 45-seconds left in regulation to cap the scoring. Sirotkin ended the game with two goals and one assist for his first three-point game of the season.
Goalie Adam Wilcox (13-11-0) made 30 saves on 33 shots in the loss for the Storm, while Skoff (14-16-0) made 28 saves on 29 shots in the win for the Musketeers.
Tri-City went 0-for-4 on the power play, while going 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Storm are a perfect 15-for-15 on the penalty kill in the last four games.
The Storm stay on the road Saturday night and will play against the Des Moines Buccaneers in Urbandale, Iowa. The Breeze 94.5 FM will air Saturday's game with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m.
