Edson Commits to "Aim High"

Waterloo, Iowa-When Max Edson leaves the Waterloo Black Hawks, he will be joining two successful teams. The Hawks announced Friday that Edson plans to skate for the Falcons while attending the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs next fall.
"I want to thank my teammates and coaches for helping me to have this opportunity," said Edson. "My family has served in the Air Force, so I know about some of the challenges, and I look forward to them."
Edson, who turns 19 today, is currently spending his second USHL season with the Black Hawks. Although he missed nearly two months with a shot-blocking injury, the Hermosa Beach, California, native has averaged almost a point per game with four goals and nine assists in 17 contests. He is currently tied for tenth in team scoring. In 2010-2011, Edson was one of seven Hawks with double-digit goals, scoring ten times and contributing nine assists in 54 contests. Four of Edson's 14 career USHL goals have been game-winners.
"Max brings a great attitude to the ice," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "We missed him while he was out of the lineup. The Air Force will be getting a quality individual as well as a skilled player."
Edson's commitment gives the Black Hawks 14 players who have announced intentions to attend an NCAA Division I university in the future. Former Waterloo forward Paul Weisgarber is currently the Falcons' captain and a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS award recognizing student-athletes who have combined excellence in athletics, academics and community service.
