GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2012) - Sound Tigers goaltender Anders Nilsson made 37 saves and Tomas Marcinko scored the eventual game-winner midway through the second period as Bridgeport earned its eighth straight win with a 2-1 victory over the Adirondack Phantoms at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Saturday night. The Sound Tigers improve to 20-17-3-1 with their eighth consecutive victory to open the 2012 calendar year. Adirondack falls to 21-17-1-1.

The Sound Tigers and Phantoms combined for 21 shots in the opening period as both sides had quality scoring chances, but Nilsson and Phantoms netminder Michael Leighton made big saves to keep the game scoreless after the first 20 minutes of play. The Sound Tigers best chance came during a 4-on-4 in the second half of the period when Tyler McNeely was stopped on a breakaway by Leighton's outstretched right leg pad. Adirondack nearly broke the scoreless tie in the final minute on the power play when Tye McGinn created some room in front of Nilsson. However, the rookie netminder denied McGinn's one-timer to keep the score 0-0.

Casey Cizikas gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead 2:22 into the second period. After the Sound Tigers sustained a forecheck in the Phantoms zone and cycled the puck, Tyler McNeely worked hard along the half wall to keep the puck in the zone. McNeely sent the puck into the slot where Cizikas was waiting, and the Sound Tigers leading scorer beat Leighton for his 10th goal of the season. Tomas Marcinko pushed the lead to two midway throught the second period. Brandon Gentile sent a low shot towards the net that deflected off an Adirondack defenseman's stick to Micheal Haley. Haley chipped the puck towards the goal and Marcinko batted it out of midair over Leighton for his fifth tally of the season to give the Sound Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Jonathon Kalinski cut the Sound Tigers lead in half with 8:50 left in regulation when he beat Nilsson from the right circle to end Nilsson's shutout bid. However, Nilsson denied the Phantoms the rest of the way and stopped 16 of Adirondack's 17 third period shots to come away with his ninth win of the season

The Sound Tigers will look for their ninth consecutive win Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host the St. John's IceCaps at Webster Bank Arena.
