Jets Assign Derek Meech to IceCaps

The Winnipeg Jets today announced they have assigned defenceman Derek Meech to the St. John's IceCaps.

Meech, 26, played in two games with the Winnipeg Jets this season before suffering a lower body injury on Oct. 29/11. The Winnipeg, MB native has played in 128 career NHL games between Detroit and Winnipeg for a total of 16 points (4g, 12a) and 43 penalty minutes.

Meech spent the 2010-11 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL playing in 74 games for 37 points (10g, 27a) and 81 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Detroit in the seventh round, 229th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
