Victoria Royals News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - In a Wednesday night matchup at Mosaic Place, the Victoria Royals squared off with the Moose Jaw Warriors as the Royals continued their longest road trip of the season. Victoria gave Keith Hamilton the nod in goal while Moose Jaw countered with Spencer Tremblay.
The game began with both teams looking to set a physical tone and establish early momentum on the man-advantage. The Warriors capitalized with the extra man when Cam Braes fed a pass from the left point to the back post for James Henry, who made no mistake in slapping the puck past Hamilton at the 9:20 mark. The game would maintain its physical nature, with Moose Jaw leading 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
The Royals looked to swing the momentum in the opening minutes of the second period with several quality scoring chances. The physical play continued as Victoria's Tim Traber and Moose Jaw's Dallas Ehrhardt squared off for the night's first fight. Both combatants landed several heavy blows, with the decision eventually going to Ehrhardt. Just past the half-way point of the frame, the Royals killed off a five-on-three Warriors' power play, bolstered by the stellar play of Hamilton. Moose Jaw's Quinton Howden let go a point shot that rebounded out front to Braes, whose shot was snagged by a sprawling Hamilton. Moments later, Warriors' forward Sam Fioretti tipped a shot from the right circle that hit the right post before Hamilton pulled the loose puck off the goal line to keep it a one goal game. After 40 minutes Moose Jaw still lead 1-0.
The Warriors stretched their lead to two at 5:20 of the third period when Andrew Johnson intercepted a pass and fed Braes in the slot for a one-timer that beat Hamilton over the left shoulder. Off the ensuing faceoff, Moose Jaw looked to go score again as Fioretti drove the net off the left boards and cut to his forehand, but he could not beat Hamilton's glove. The Royals pulled their goalie with just under two minutes left, but were unable to capitalize with the extra-attacker. Moose Jaw 2 Victoria 0.
Victoria went 0/6 0.0% on the power play, while Moose Jaw was 1/4 25.0%. The Warriors outshot the Royals 29-23.
Victoria now travels to Prince Albert to take on the Raiders on Friday, January 20th Place in the Royals' fifth straight game away from home. Puck drop is set for 5:00p.m. P.S.T. Victoria returns home on Friday, January 27th when they welcome the Kamloops Blazers to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a two game set.
