Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Heat hosted the Grand Rap- ids Griffins for two tight affairs this past weekend. The Heat lost 4-3 in regulation on Friday and fell 2-1 in overtime on Saturday, which gave the club at least a point in seven of their last eight games at home.

In Saturday's game Akim Aliu lit the lamp for his second of the season as a member of the Heat while Danny Taylor had a strong game between the pipes, mak- ing 40 saves on 42 shots earning first star honours in the loss.

Friday's crowd watched as a Heat rally fell just short in a 4-3 loss to the Griffins. Greg Nemisz figured in on the scoring as he potted his 8th of the season in his return game with the Heat after a two week stint in Calgary, which was his second call-up of the season.

Krys Kolanos finished the season series against Grand Rapids with some gaudy numbers that in- cluded five goals and five assists on 25 shots and a plus-8 rating.

The Heat are back on the road looking to continue their strong play in Texas and Oklahoma.

This is the second trip of the season for the Heat to face their divisional rivals; the last roadie through Texas was an immense- ly successful one as the team earned wins in all but one con- test over a 10-game, 14-day trip. The Heat face the San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday, the Texas Stars on Wednesday, the Okla- homa City Barons on Saturday and Sunday, before closing out the trip back in San Antonio on Monday, January 16th.

In total the team will travel over 8,700 kilometers (5,400+ miles) as they play five games over a seven-day stretch.

The Heat are a perfect 4-0-0-0 on the season against the Stars, are 1-2-0-0 against the Ram- page, and have a mark of 1-2-1-0 against the Barons.

The Heat have been at their best on the road this season winning 15 of 19 games on route to earn- ing a league-best .789 winning percentage away from the AESC.

The AHL All-Star Classic rosters have been announced and two members of the Heat cracked the line-up for the Western Conference squad.

Clay Wilson currently sits in the top twelve in AHL scoring amongst defenders having posted six goals and 14 assists for 20 points prior to his flight to YYC on December 30th. Wilson was selected to the All- Star Classic last season as a member of the Roches- ter Americans and made his first All-Star appearance during the 2007-08 campaign while playing with the Syracuse Crunch.

Forward Krys Kolanos is also headed for Atlantic City as he leads the club in goals, assists, points, shots, power play goals, and game winning goals despite having missed nine contests this season. Kolanos has 37 points in 26 games and sits seventh in the league in points while leading the AHL in first goals, as he's opened the scoring in seven games this season.
