
Slow Start Leads to Loss for Jam

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (9-7) fell short of a weekend sweep against the Idaho Stampede (7-9), losing 114-104 at home tonight. The Jam played catch-up for the majority of the game, being up only twice early in the first quarter.
Behind Luke Babbitt's 14 point first quarter performance, Idaho finished the opening period with a commanding 32-20 lead. The Stampede extended their lead to as many as 21 points in the second, their largest advantage of the night, bringing the halftime score to 64-50. Bakersfield made a push in the third, cutting the deficit to just three points on a Juan Pattillo lay-up with 3:11 to go but Idaho answered right back to go up by nine (84-75) at the end of the quarter. The Stampede opened the final period on an 18-6 run, getting ahead again by 21 points on a Will Foster put-back at the 5:16 mark and held on to defeat the Jam.
Renaldo Major had a team-high 23 points and 9 rebounds for Bakersfield, getting to the free throw line 19 times and converting 15 of those shots. Toronto Raptors assignee Solomon Alabi narrowly missed another double-double, recording 22 points and 9 boards. Jeremy Wise finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists.
Portland Trailblazers assignee Luke Babbitt scored a game-high 35 points on 13-for-23 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds while dishing out 6 assists to lead Idaho. Paul Carter added 16 points while Seth Tarver and Denver Nuggets assignee Jordan Hamilton had 12 points each. Hamilton also finished with 10 rebounds, recording a double-double. Armon Johnson, assigned from the Portland Trailblazers, contributed 10 points and 9 assists, and Julyan Stone, assigned from the Denver Nuggets, tallied 5 points, 5 rebounds and a game-high 11 assists.
The Jam will next travel to the 2012 NBA Development League Showcase held in Reno, Nevada to face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Monday, January 9 at 3:30 p.m. PT and the Idaho Stampede on Wednesday, January 11 at 12:45 p.m. PT, televised live on NBA TV.
