
Royals Kick T-Birds off the Island

Victoria, BC- The Seattle Thunderbirds ran into a wrecking ball Saturday night at the Save-On-Food Centre in Victoria, British Columbia. That wrecking ball was Victoria Royals center Kevin Sunder who had four goals and an assist to lead the Royals to a 7-3 victory over the Thunderbirds.
This was the second game of a two-game series between the two teams. The T-Birds won 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night.
Sundher scored 1:01 into the first period to put the Royals in front 2-1. Robin Soudek and Brandon Magee had the assists.
The T-Birds came right back and tied the game on a power-play goal from Branden Troock at 3:59 of the first. Shea Theodore and Dave Sutter had the assists. Theodore, a rookie defenseman, has six assists in 10 games so far this season.
Sundher got Victoria (9-7-0-1) back in front 2-1 with a power-play goal at 10:20 of the first. Hayden Rintoul and Soudek were credited with the assists.
Seattle (5-6-0-0) outshot Victoria 14-8 in the first period.
Steven Hodges scored a power-play goal at 2:25 of the second to make it a 3-1 Victoria lead. Brett Cote and Zane Jones were credited with the assists.
Sundher completed the hat trick at 3:06 of the second with a power-play goal. Soudek and Jones had the assists on the goal that gave Victoria a 4-1 lead.
Soudek scored at 6:51 of the second to increase the Royals lead to 5-1. Rintoul had the only assist on the goal.
Daniel Cotton replaced Calvin Pickard in net for Seattle after Victoria's fifth goal. Pickard made 11 saves on 16 shots and his record is now 5-5-0-0.
Rintoul scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 8:53 of the second to put the Royals in front 6-1. Jamie Crooks and Sundher had the assists.
The Royals outshot the T-Bird 16-7 in the second period and led 24-21 in total shots after two periods.
Sundher scored his fourth goal of the game at 4:58 of the third to make it a 7-1 Royals lead. Soudek and Jesse Zgraggen had the assists
Brad Deagle scored the T-Birds second goal when he went coast-to-coast and beat Victoria goalie Keith Hamilton with a backhand shot. Deagle's second goal of the season was unassisted.
Luke Lockhart converted a pass from Brendan Rouse at 19:42 of the third to get the T-Birds third goal of the game.
Hamilton made 24 saves on 27 shots to get the win and improve his record to 8-5-0-1.
Cotton stopped 15 of 17 shots he faced in 33 minute of action.
The T-Birds take on the Vancouver Giants Tuesday at ShoWare Center at 7:05pm. They then head out on a six-game road trip through the Central Division of the WHL
