Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - After opening the season with 1-0 win against Sioux City, the first road trip for the Tri-City Storm won't be an easy one.
The Storm will play their first road game of the season against the defending Clark Cup Champions - Dubuque Fighting Saints on Friday night.
Making his debuting return to the Storm this season on Friday night is defenseman Tyler Amburgey, who received his Clark Cup ring from the Saints last Saturday night in Dubuque's 3-2 loss to Green Bay. Amburgey enter his fifth year of junior hockey and had a career-high six goals with the Storm in the 2009-10 season.
The Storm (1-0-0, 2 pts) were 0-2-0 last season against the Saints and are 3-3-0 all-time (includes the Storm's first season in franchise history against Dubuque).
The following night after playing Dubuque (0-1-0, 0 pts), the Storm will travel southwest to Urbandale, Iowa to play the Des Moines Buccaneers. Last season, the Storm were 1-0-1 against the Buccaneers and are 34-19-5 all-time in the regular season.
Des Moines (0-0-1, 1 pt) lost their home opener to the Fargo Force last Saturday night 5-4 in a shootout. The Buccaneers allowed four power play goals in the loss to Fargo.
The game on Friday at Dubuque will air on The Breeze 94.5 FM from the Mystique Ice Center. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game Saturday night from Urbandale against Des Moines.

- G Pheonix Copley was named the Co-Reebok Goaltender of the Week in the USHL on Monday...The award followed his 28-save shutout win in his debut with the Storm
- LW Heikki Liedes scored his first career goal of the season, which was the game-winner against Sioux City last Friday night
- C Soren Jonzzon had a game-high seven shots on goal against Sioux City

- Dubuque is led by second year C Zemgus Girgensons, who is expected to become the highest NHL draft pick from the USHL this season...Girgensons had 49 points (21 goals, 28 assists) in 51 games with the Saints...He had two assists against Green Bay in the Dubuque home opening 3-2 loss...Girgensons is the Saints captain
- The Saints return six forwards from the team last season and G Matt Morris, who is committed to University of Maine next season...Morris was named to the 2010-11 USHL Second and Rookie Teams
- New to the mix is LW Max Gardiner (played at University of Minnesota last season) RW Eric Freschi, D Mike Matheson and D Teddy Doherty...Matheson is regarded as another high NHL draft pick on the Dubuque roster
Saturday, Oct. 8 vs. Des Moines Buccaneers - 0-0-1, 1 pt (5th in Eastern Conference)
- Des Moines returns seven players from last season's team...Forwards Cal Decowski and Gasper Kopitar are the highest scorers returing to the roster this season...Decowski had 25 points (8g, 17a) last season...Kopitar, who's brother is L.A. Kings (NHL) forward Anze Kopitar, had 24 points (12g, 12a) last season
- New to the mix is G Jason Kasdorf...Kasdorf was drafted in the 6th round (157th overall) by his hometown NHL team - Winnipeg Jets...He is committed to R.P.I. for next season
- LW Trent Samuels-Thomas comes back to the USHL with Des Moines after playing in only one game with Waterloo in 2009-10...Samuels-Thomas played for the Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL) last season
