Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Before the Fighting Saints took the ice for their first regular season game in 2011-12, one order of business remained from the previous campaign. Clark Cup Championship rings were distributed to the players and coaches from last season's team on the ice Saturday, prior to faceoff against the Green Bay Gamblers - the team the Fighting Saints defeated in the Clark Cup Final. Seven of the Fighting Saints players from the championship squad are back with the Fighting Saints, and two others were back in Dubuque to receive their rings on Saturday. All other players, most of whom are beginning D-1 college hockey seasons, had their rings shipped to them over the weekend.
The crest of the Fighting Saints Clark Cup ring features the Fighting Saints primary "D" logo, surrounded by ten round-cut diamonds. The words "Clark Cup Champions" and the numbers "10" and "11", signifying the 2010-11 season, frame the top of the ring. The left side of the ring features the Fighting Saints secondary "shield" logo. The area over the shield is personalized with the last name of the player or coach to whom the ring belongs. The right side of the ring includes the team name, and portrays the Clark Cup, with the year 2011 and the words "Team First" enveloping the trophy.
Brad Kwong, Managing Partner of Northern Lights Hockey, the group that owns the Fighting Saints, noted that the rings convey the ideals and dedication of the entire Fighting Saints organization.
"These rings are emblematic of the incredible hard work and level of professionalism our players, coaches and staff exhibited last year," he said. "In terms of the design, we attempted to incorporate key elements of the Saints' Championship Season, but most important was the inclusion of the inscribed 'Team First', as these are the words our team lives by."
