Hounds Roster Trimmed Down to 30

The 2011/12 edition of the Soo Greyhounds is another step closer to being complete after the team's roster was reduced to 30 active players on Sunday morning.

GM Kyle Dubas, Head Coach Mike Stapleton and their accompanying staff took time following Saturday's Luke Williams Memorial Red and White game to make their final decisions.

And with 11 players expected to leave for various NHL Training Camps in the coming days, the Hounds were left to keep a larger than usual roster heading into OHL exhibition action.

Remaining with the club are:

Goalies (2) - Matt Murray, Chris Perugini

Defense (8) - Mackenzie Braid, Gianluca Curcuruto, Colin Miller, Darnell Nurse, Joe Rogalski, Michael Schwindt, Ryan Sproul, Patrick Volpe

Forward (20) - Brandon Alderson, Peter Angelopoulos, David Broll, Tye Campbell, Adam Chapman, Jordan Coccimiglio, Nick Cousins, Carson Dubchak, Corey Durocher, David Elsner, Brett Findlay, Andrew Fritsch, Nick Halagian, Michael Kantor, Trevor Morbeck, David Quesnele, Michael Schumacher, Kyle Shaw, Rudy Sulmonte, Chad Thibodeau

Thirteen players were subsequently released, or left the team to pursue/evaluate their options following camp. Those players are:

Tyler Brown, Mac Clutsam, Justin Cooke, Kevin Entmaa, Matt Fuller, Tyler Ganly, Stuart King, Ryan Kirkup, Daniel Lombardi, Stephen Midensky, Justin Nichols, Tyler Sehovic, Adam Vandersluis

The 2011-12 Hounds stepped onto the ice for their first team practice this morning at 10:30 a.m. and will continue to prepare over the next week for their first OHL exhibition contest.

Next weekend will see the locals in a home-and-home series with the Sudbury Wolves. Friday Night, September 9th, the Hounds head to Sudbury before returning to the Essar Centre on Saturday, September 10th at 7:35 p.m.
