TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Portland Sea Dogs will meet in game two of a three-game series...The Flying Squirrels scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and Daryl Maday and Edwin Quirarte combined on a three-hit shutout as Richmond took the series-opener from the Sea Dogs 5-0 on Friday night in front of 7,205 fans at The Diamond.

SHUTOUT SQUIRRELS: The Flying Squirrels tossed their eighth shutout of the season last night in a 5-0, series-opening win over the Sea Dogs...It was the second shutout tossed by the club in its last five games...Clayton Tanner and Hector Correa combined on a four-hit shutout of the Trenton Thunder 7/31...The three hits given up by the Flying Squirrels were the fewest since limiting the Harrisburg Senators to three hits in game one of a doubleheader 7/24...Richmond has tossed the fourth-most shutouts in the Eastern League, trailing New Hampshire (9), Akron (9), and Harrisburg (10)...It was the seventh time this season that Portland has been shutout.
PITCHING IN: The Flying Squirrels pitching staff leads the Eastern League with a 3.29 ERA through 112 games and has allowed a league-low 425 runs...Richmond's pitching staff has allowed two runs or less in 44 of its 112 games (39%)...Starting pitching has allowed three runs or less in 81 of the team's 112 games (72%) and the club is 55-26 in those contests.
FIVE ALIVE: The Flying Squirrels rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring four of the five runs with two outs in the inning...It was the largest offensive inning for the club since it scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning 7/28 at Trenton...Richmond improved to 38-7 when scoring five runs or more.
TURNING IT AROUND: Third baseman Chris Dominguez went 1-for-4 last night with a double, RBI, and a run scored...In his previous 22 contests, the 24-year-old was hitting just .148 (12-for-81) and had seen his average drop from .326 to .243...The Flying Squirrels improved to 15-6 when Dominguez drives in a run...Outfielder Juan Perez went 1-for-1 last night with a pair of walks and a run scored...It was the first time this season that the 24-year-old had walked multiple times in a game and he had walked just twice in his previous 15 games...In his previous eight contests, Perez hit .107 (3-for-28).
WES SIDE STORY: First baseman Wes Hodges went 1-for-4 last night giving him hits in 17 of his last 21 games...Over that span, the 26-year-old is batting .405 (32-for-79) with six doubles, four home runs, 12 RBIs, and 12 runs scored...The current stretch began on 7/15 at Bowie when Hodges went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs...His average has been raised from .242 to .318 over his last 21 games with Richmond.
HOME AND AWAY: The Flying Squirrels recently completed a stretch where they played 14 of 20 games on the road...The team went 13-7 over that span including an 8-6 mark on the road...Overall, the club is 23-30 on the road, and is batting .224 and averaging 3.58 runs per game (190R/53G) in 53 road contests...The club is 38-21 overall at home - the best home record in the league - and is batting .260 in 59 games at The Diamond while averaging 4.53 runs per game at home (267R/59G).
