Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced today that infielder Travis Shaw, the Red Sox ninth round selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, has been named New York-Penn League Offensive Player of the week for the week ending July 3.

In what was a record breaking week for the Lowell Spinners, who set franchise marks for extra-base hits in a game, hits in a game and scoreless innings, Shaw led the charge. His 4-for-4, five-RBI performance July 2 against the Connecticut Tigers was powered by a home run and three doubles, as he scored three runs and walked twice, setting a franchise mark for extra-base hits in a game and total bases.

For the week, Shaw posted a slash line of .409/.480/.955 in six games played, starting at third base, first base and as the team's designated hitter. He compiled three doubles, three home runs, three walks and eight RBI, scoring seven runs.

For the season Shaw is batting .327 with a league-leading four home runs, 12 RBI and a .635 slugging percentage.

The last Spinner to be selected as Player of the Week was outfielder Wilfred Pichardo, who was honored August 17, 2009.

Shaw, son of former Major League All-Star Jeff Shaw, and the Spinners return to LeLacheur Park Saturday, July 9 for the start of a six-game home stand. Tickets for the home stand and all 2011 Lowell Spinners home games are available now at www.LowellSpinners.com .
