New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - It's official - New York Yankees' General Manager Brian Cashman today confirmed that his 24-year-old star Pitcher, Phil Hughes, is headed to Connecticut to make a Rehab start on Friday night against the Rock Cats at New Britain Stadium. The 6'4"/240-pound right-hander has already won 31 Major League games in portions of three seasons for the Yankees, and is now in the process of regaining his arm strength and winning form for a return trip to the Bronx. The Mission Viejo, CA resident experienced a "tired arm" in three early starts for the 2011 Yankees, and was placed on the Disabled List shortly after his April 14th start against Baltimore. His line at the time was 0-1 with a 13.94 ERA.

Hughes began his rehabilitation effort in earnest last Sunday afternoon when he pitched 4.1 innings for the Staten Island Yankees of the Single-A New York-Penn League. The big righty allowed just 3 Hits and 1 Run to the Brooklyn Cyclones while striking out 7. His scheduled work in New Britain on Friday night will be for the Yankees' Eastern League affiliate, the Trenton Thunder.

Fans interested in securing tickets to Friday night's game should either visit the New Britain Stadium Box Office or call the Rock Cats Ticket Office at (860) 224-8383. Fans interested in the convenience of on-line purchasing may get tickets in that manner by visiting the club's website at www.rockcats.com.
