Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - People expecting an average night at the ballpark likely went home disappointed. The Greenville Drive (28-30) will be going home happy after riding a five-run sixth inning to a 6-5 victory over the Lexington Legends (28-30) at Fluor Field.
The Legends struck first in the top of the first inning, when Delino DeShields, Jr. walked, moved to second on a Miguel Celestino throwing error and scored on two wild pitches. The Drive countered with a run when Felix Sanchez's bunt was thrown into right field, allowing Sanchez to get to third. He scored when red-hot Miles Head smoked a double to center.
Lexington manufactured a single run in the second inning on a Jordan Scott sacrifice fly to center field. They added to the lead in the sixth when Emilio King found the right-center gap for a two-run double.
The Drive came alive in the bottom of the sixth by batting around and scoring five runs. Head ripped another double to lead off the inning and scored when Jose Garcia also doubled, which chased Legends starter Carlos Quevedo. After Gabriel Garcia came in and promptly issued a pair of walks, Heiker Meneses drove in a pair with a single to center. He stole second and scored when Drew Hedman capped the Drive scoring with a two-run single.
Lexington's final run came when Adam Bailey homered to right field off Drive reliever Juan Rodriguez. Tyler Lockwood nailed down the ninth inning for the Drive to record his third save. Celestino improved to 4-3 with the victory, while Gabriel Garcia took the loss, falling to 1-1.
Bailey had two hits for the Legends, including the homer. Tyler Burnett also had a pair of hits, and King drove in two runs. Meneses enjoyed a 3-4 evening at the plate with 2 RBI and a stolen base. Hedman came off the bench to deliver two hits and two RBI, while Head added two more hits.
