Jose Canseco's Yuma Scorpions Set to Open Season Tomorrow Night

The Yuma Scorpions are pleased to announce that the roster and festivities are set for Opening Day on Tuesday, May 23rd. The team hosts the Calgary Vipers in a rare season opening doubleheader. In addition to being the professional managerial debut of Jose Canseco, who will also bat 3rd in the lineup, the team has a lot of excitement instore for the fans.

Pre-game starts at 5:10 with the Vietnam Veteran's of America, Yuma Chapter 835, presenting the colors. This will be followed by beloved chorister and soloist alto Naomi DeVries Pomerantz who will sing both the U.S. and Canadian national anthems. The game will begin with Yuma Mayor Alan Krieger throwing out the first pitch, and will also feature mid-inning promotions and giveaways from many of the team's business partners including the Cocopah Resort and Casino, Buffalo WildWings, Dominoes Pizza, Let's Fly, Bose, and more. Also, regional winners from the exciting new television show "X-Factor" will be performing between innings as they get ready to head to Hollywood. A new kid zone with a face painter and jumpy houses is all set for the little fans. At the conclusion of the national anthems, former USMC Fighter Pilot Jim McDermott, owner of the legendary Let's Fly flight school will buzz the stadium with a flyover as he showers the crowd with cash and free tickets for a future Scorpions game in his unique Beat the Recession aerial performance.

In addition to Jose and Ozzie Canseco who will DH and play 1B respectively, three additional ex-major leaguers adorn the roster as LHP Franklyn Gracesqui, RHP Chris Britton, and SS Luis Ugueto are all Yuma Scorpions this season.

"I'm excited about this year's team as the Canseco's will be leading a veteran squad that should be very competitive," said Yuma Scorpions' General Manager Jose Melendez. "Also, we are increasing the fun at the stadium as well which will make it a great choice for family entertainment in Yuma."

"This is an incredibly talented team," said Jose Canseco. "I've built this team to win a championship and think that we should dominate the league. It will be a fun summer in Yuma!"
