Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs (12-23) used an eight run fourth inning to open the homestand with a 14-4 win over the Reading Phillies (22-16) Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. The win snapped a five game skid for the Sea Dogs.
Che-Hsuan Lin led the Portland offensive attack with a 3-for-4 performance with 4 RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Eight of the nine starters collected at least one hit in the victory.
The Reading Phillies scored three unearned runs early to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning. However, the Sea Dogs offense would make-up the deficit batting around in the fourth inning, scoring eight times and the Sea Dogs never looked back. After Jorge Padron got the scoring started with a RBI single, Jon Hee delivered a two run single to tie the game at three. Mitch Dening legged out a two run triple to give Portland a 5-3 lead which chased Reading starter Austin Hyatt (5-2) from the game. Reading reliever Jacob Diekman would not fare any better yielding RBI singles to Lin and Tim Federowicz as Portland opened an 8-3 lead.
Portland starter Stephen Fife (4-2) did not allow an earned run holding the Reading offense to four hits over five innings to earn his fourth win of the season and lowering his ERA to 2.57.
Lin added his second RBI single of the game in the fifth to give Portland a 9-3 lead. Oscar Tejeda chipped-in with a RBI single in the sixth to extend the lead to 10-3.
Alex Hassan continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-4 performance including his third home run of the season in the seventh. He continues to lead the league in hitting with a .374 average.
Portland tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, highlighted by a two run double to left by Lin.
The Portland bullpen, Jeremy Kehrt and Seth Garrison provided solid relief holding Reading to one run on four hits over the final four innings. Garrison has held opponents scoreless in 10 of his 12 outings this season.
The Sea Dogs and Phillies will continue the series Wednesday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. Right-handed pitcher Michael Lee (1-3, 4.45) will take the mound for Portland. He will be opposed by Reading lefty Ryan Edell (3-1, 4.29).
