PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers continued their sixth week of preseason training Wednesday as they look ahead to the upcoming Cascadia Summit this week, where they will face Northwest opponents Seattle Sounders FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC in preseason play.

The Cascadia Summit will be held in Tukwila, Wash., at Starfire Sports Stadium. On back-to-back days, Portland faces Seattle on Friday at 7:30 p.m., before taking on Vancouver on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Timbers' Cascadia Summit matches will be streamed live online at

www.portlandtimbers.com, with streaming beginning approximately 20 minutes prior to kickoff. Each team will provide one host for their match broadcasts. A live radio broadcast of Friday's contest against Sounders FC will air on 95.5 The Game.

Since returning from a 10-day camp in Casa Grande, Ariz., the team has resumed their training regimen at the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation complex in Beaverton. The opening of the 2011 Major League Soccer season is just under three weeks away, with the Timbers' First Kick on March 19 in Colorado.

In Week 6 of preseason, the Timbers training group has undergone some changes. Traveling back to Portland with the team were non-roster forwards Jorge Perlaza and Brian Umony. No longer training with the team are midfielders Roberto Merino and Tony McManus and forward Doug DeMartin. The lone new face in camp is midfielder Bim Ogunyemi, who played for the club's development team in 2010.

UPDATE: Timbers add San Jose Earthquakes to preseason schedule The Timbers have added a scrimmage against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, March 12, at Buck Shaw Stadium to their preseason schedule. The scrimmage between the two clubs will not be open to the public.

Timbers acquire midfielder Jack Jewsbury from Sporting Kansas City

The Timbers continued to add to their inaugural season roster this week, announcing the acquisition of experienced midfielder Jack Jewsbury from Sporting Kansas City in a trade for allocation money. Jewsbury, 29, has played the past eight seasons with Sporting KC, appearing in 195 regular-season matches and recording 15 goals and 21 assists during his time with the club. Named Sporting KC's 2008 Defensive Player of the Year, Jewsbury ranks among the club's all-time career leaders in games played.

Timbers learn results of U.S. Open Cup coin toss

MLS conducted a series of coin flips Monday to determine details for U.S. Open Cup play-in matches for 10 teams. The Timbers, along with nine other MLS sides, are competing for the two remaining spots in the league's eight-team field in the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament proper.

The Timbers have been paired with Chivas USA for their first play-in match; details regarding the match (date, location, kickoff time) will be announced at a later date. San Jose will play host to the winner of the Portland-Chivas USA match in April.

Timbers host 2011 Kickoff Luncheon

Teaming up with Portland Business Alliance, the Timbers play host to a 2011 Kickoff Luncheon on Tuesday, March 8, at The Nines Hotel in downtown Portland. The luncheon is the first intimate opportunity to meet both the players and coaches. Open to both local businesses and individuals, the event is highlighted by a key note address from Timbers head coach John Spencer. A silent auction benefitting the Timbers Community Fund will also take place at the luncheon.

The first 25 companies to purchase a table at the luncheon will have a Timbers player or coach seated at their table for the event; tables cost $850 and include space for 9-10 people. Half-season and on-field ticket packages now on sale

Earlier this week, the Timbers unveiled a variety of new season ticket packages. They are now on sale. Half-season ticket packages are available in three sections of the stadium in two different, 10-game packages, starting at $21/game. Other plans introduced were on-field season tickets along the east side of the stadium and season packages in the new Touchline Lounge, located field side where the former Widmer Garden existed previously. In-Review: Preseason camp in Casa Grande, Ariz.

The Timbers recently completed a successful preseason camp at Grande Sports World in Casa Grande, Ariz. Portland shut out each of its three preseason opponents during the camp to keep its unbeaten preseason record (1-0-4) intact. The Timbers also secured their first preseason victory as an MLS side while in the Valley of the Sun, defeating the Montreal Impact 1-0.
