Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, March 2, 2011) - Chivas USA announced a "Read and Score" Bus Tour taking place this Friday, featuring Chivas USA players, the ChivaFighter, and ChivaGirls riding a school bus and making three stops at local elementary schools. Each bus stop will feature different activities for participating students, teachers, families, and members of the community. The bus tour takes place on Read Across America Day, an annual celebration of reading held on Dr. Seuss's birthday that promotes the importance of reading.
The event is the official kickoff of the club's "Read and Score" program for the 2011 season. Launched in 2010, the initiative supports existing reading programs at elementary schools and rewards top student readers with a ticket to a Chivas USA home game, a hat, and the opportunity to participate in game day experiences. To ensure the initiative has a real impact on student reading, Chivas USA works closely with teachers and school administrators to develop individualized reading programs at a small number of schools.
