Warriors Double up on Oil Kings 6-3

Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings couldn't recover from a 3-0 deficit after the first period as they were defeated 6-3 by the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday at Rexall Place during 70's Night featuring the Hanson Brothers.

Hockey's original Hollywood goons from the movie Slap Shot opened the night's festivities by appearing in the Oil Kings' starting lineup and subsequently getting kicked out of the game 10 seconds after puck-drop for abusing the referee as well as members of the Warriors.

And once the official game started, the Oil Kings had some trouble with penalties as well, as the Warriors scored two power-play goals in the first period en route to the victory. Antonin Honejsek led Moose Jaw to the win with two goals and two assists, while Colin Bowman also scored two of the team's six goals.

Scoring for the Oil Kings were T.J. Foster, Jordan Hickmott and Mark Reners. Foster's 18th of the year 1:34 into the middle frame went off both posts and in, and also extended his point streak to seven games. Hickmott tallied his 21st of the season with 2:55 left in the second, sneaking a bad-angle wrist shot through goalie Thomas Heemskerk's pads. And Reners converted on a rebound with 2:06 left in the third for his second goal since joining the Oil Kings at the trade deadline.

Goalie Laurent Brossoit was busy between the Edmonton pipes and ended up making 25 saves in a losing cause, while Heemskerk was even busier, turning aside 32 Oil Kings shots to earn the win. Oil Kings rookie defenceman Griffin Reinhart had his first career Rexall Place fight early in the third, exchanging punches with Moose Jaw's Brett Lyon.

In addition to being in the Oil Kings' starting lineup and meeting with thousands of fans throughout the game, the Hanson Brothers signed six Charlestown Chiefs jerseys that were up for silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Oil Kings Education Association. More than $3,000 was raised for the association from the jersey auction.

Next up for the Oil Kings (22-22-0-2) is Minor Hockey Night versus the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday, and the Saskatoon Blades are in town on Wednesday for another K-97 and 96.3 Capital FM Wiener Wednesday, as hot dogs are just $2 all night. Both games start at 7 p.m. at Rexall Place.

Tickets to every Oil Kings home game are available starting at just $15 at any Ticketmaster outlet, online at oilkings.ca, or by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625).
