Waterloo Black Hawks Weekly

January 18, 2011 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Waterloo Black Hawks

Halfway Home

The Waterloo Black Hawks' 6-1 win against the Chicago Steel Saturday was the 30th game of the season. With an 11-16-3 record, this marks the fifth season out of ten that the Hawks have been below 30 points at midway since the league adopted a 60-game schedule. In two of those first four years (2003-2004 and 2009-2010), Waterloo went on to win at least 30 games and accumulate over 60 standings points.

Present and Accounted For

In a season filled with injuries and roster change, three Waterloo Black Hawks have appeared in all 30 games this season. Included are veterans Andrew Panzarella and Jamie Hill who each skated in over 50 games last season (Panzarella played his first 36 games last year with the Tri City Storm). Tyson Fulton has also participated in every Black Hawks game. Additionally, Anthony Day has dressed in 30 games, 21 with the Sioux Falls Stampede before being traded to the Black Hawks after Christmas.

MacDonald Serves Up Win

Jacob MacDonald scored his third game-winning goal of the season Saturday. The marker gives him the most game-winning tallies on the team. The second-year defenseman is tied with Aaron Harstad of the Green Bay Gamblers for the most game-deciding scores among all league defenseman. MacDonald's total is the most among Black Hawks' blue-liners in one season since Blake Kessel notched four in 2007-2008.

In and Out of the East

The Black Hawks' games at Indiana and Youngstown this weekend will be the last time the squad meets an Eastern Conference foe until mid-February. After Saturday, Waterloo plays six straight against the Western Conference. The first inner-conference game after the stretch will be against Indiana on February 18th.
