Panthers Reassign Defenseman Keaton Ellerby to Amerks

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the Florida Panthers have reassigned defenseman Keaton Ellerby to the Amerks. Ellerby is scheduled to join Rochester this afternoon in British Columbia and will be eligible to participate in tonight's American Hockey League contest against the Abbotsford Heat. Faceoff is slated for a 10:00 p.m. EST at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre.
Ellerby, 21, returns to the Amerks after registering two assists in two NHL games with the Florida Panthers since being recalled to the big club on October 20th. The Strathmore, Alberta, native logged 26:34 of ice time during his brief two-game stint and recorded his first point and multi-point game of his NHL career with a pair of helpers in Florida's 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on October 23rd. The third-year pro has also appeared in one game with the Amerks this season, seeing time in Rochester's 5-2 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs last Tuesday.
A first-round selection (10th overall) by the Panthers in 2007, the 6-foot-4, 186-pound blueliner has appeared in 24 games with Florida, collecting two points and four penalty minutes. In 134 career American Hockey League games with the Amerks, Ellerby has scored nine goals and 33 assists for 42 points. Last season, he represented the Canadian All-Star team at 2010 AHL All-Star Classic.
After completing its two-game set tonight in Abbotsford, Rochester returns to the East Coast where its first-ever encounter with the Worcester Sharks awaits at the DCU Center on Friday, October 29th. Amerks defenseman Joe Callahan returns to Central Massachusetts for the first time since calling Worcester his him in 2009-10. The 7:30 p.m. game will be the first of two on the and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
