Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen went 4-for-6 on the power play Tuesday night at Carver Arena en route to a 6-2 victory over the visiting Rockford IceHogs. Chris Porter, Dave Spina and Dave Scatchard all collected three points in the game as 10 different players had at least one point in the game.

It did not take the Rivermen long to tally the first goal against their division rival. Just 2:08 into the first period, and 56 seconds into Rockford's first penalty of the night, Graham Mink and Nicholas Drazenovic set up Nathan Oystrick at the top of the left circle who rocketed a slapshot off the cross bar and in for his second of the year, both which have come on the power play.

Rockford got on the board next tying the game up 1-1with a power-play goal of their own. With Derek Peltier already in the box for slashing, Porter was whistled for boarding to create a 5-on-3 opportunity for Rockford. Just 11 seconds in, Jeremy Morin one-timed one past Ben Bishop from the bottom of the left circle.

The Rivermen only registered two shots on goal in the first period and held Rockford to only four through the first 20 minutes.

The Rivermen took the lead for good early in the second at 3:53. Phil McRae picked up a rebound in front of Rockford goalkeeper Hannu Toivonen and roofed one home for the first of three unanswered goals for in the second.

Midway through the second Porter setup shop behind the Rockford cage and then wristed a pass off to Dave Scatchard crashing towards the goal. Scatchard's shot was kicked away by Toivonen right to the stick of Dave Spina who buried his first of the year.

Two minutes later, on the power play, Drazenovic came flying down the left wing with speed and then beat Toivonen short side high with a quick wrist shot for his first of the year and the second power-play goal for Peoria in four opportunities.

Rockford scored their only goal of the second with 2:30 left when Brandon Pirri found a wide-open Shawn Lalonde in the slot who beat Bishop one-on-one with a quick shot in the upper right-hand corner.

Porter's back-to-back power-play goals in the final frame, which were only 1:18 apart, were the only two goals in the third and enough to keep Rockford from striking distance.

Both of Porter's goals were scored against Rockford backup Alec Richards, who took the reins for Toivonen after allowing four goals on 14 shots. Richards stopped eight out of the 10 shots he faced.

Bishop collected 20 saves on 22 shots which was enough for his second win of the season in three starts.

The Rivermen hit the road for a 12-day, seven game road trip where they will play the Texas Stars three times, the Houston Aeros twice, and the San Antonio Rampage twice. They start the trip on Saturday, October 16 in San Antonio at 7 p.m.

The Rivermen return home on Saturday, Oct. 30 to welcome the expansion Oklahoma City Barons to Carver Arena for the first time. It's also Pink in the Rink Night with a post-game jersey auction to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
