Houston Aeros News Release
After winning the season-opener at Oklahoma City, the Aeros get ready for their first 3-in-3 of the season as well as their home-opening weekend at Toyota Center.
FIRST-GAME RECAP
Peter Kalus registered a three-point night (2-1-3) and Joel Broda (2-0-0) scored twice as the Houston Aeros opened the 2010-11 season with a 6-1 win over the Oklahoma City Barons at the Cox Convention Center Saturday night. Aeros goalie Matt Hackett turned aside 30 shots, including 14 in the third period, for his first pro win while Mike Yeo guided the team to a victory in his head coaching debut. Cody Almond notched three assists (0-3-3) while Jean Michel-Daoust (0-2-2) and Jon DiSalvatore (1-1-2) chipped in with two points each. Houston went 2-for-7 on the power play while the Aeros penalty kill stopped all seven OKC power play opportunities.
FIRST WIN FOR YEO, SYDOR, WISEMAN
Head Coach Mike Yeo, along with assistant coaches Darryl Sydor and Brian Wiseman, were successful in their coaching debuts.
SEASON OPENERS
The Aeros are now 8-6-1-2 in season-opening road games. At home, Houston is 6-8-0-2 all time in home openers. The largest margin of victory for an opponent in a season-opener was a 7-3 loss at Fort Worth in 1995-96.
ROSTER MOVES
Defenseman Drew Bagnall, left wing Matt Kassian, goalie Anton Khudobin and forward Casey Wellman were reassigned by the Minnesota Wild to the Aeros from the National Hockey League (NHL) club on Saturday, Oct. 9.
