(Portland, ME)---Adeiny Hechavarria went 3-for-5, driving in two runs with a single, but Portland rallied for a 7-4 win on Monday in the final game of the regular season.
Sea Dog MVP Anthony Rizzo, who was honored before the game at Hadlock Field, belted his 20th home run, a three-run shot off Fisher Cats reliever Ryan Page in the fourth to break a 4-4 tie. Portland completed a four-game sweep of the Fisher Cats over Labor Day weekend.
The Fisher Cats (79-62) scored first for the fourth consecutive game in the series, plating two in the first inning. Darin Mastroianni led off with a single and Hechavarria bunted for a single. Shawn Bowman walked to load the bases. Adam Calderone hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Mastroianni for the first run. David Cooper followed with an RBI single, plating Hechavarria for the second run. Cooper finished the regular season by recording a hit in each of his last 11 games.
Portland's Nate Spears led off the bottom of the first inning against B.J. LaMura with a home run into the U.S. Cellular Pavillion in right field to make it 2-1. It was the 20th of the season for the second baseman.
LaMura worked the first two innings in his final tune-up before the playoffs, turning the game over to southpaw Ryan Page, who was making his Fisher Cats debut. The Sea Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the third on a walk and three consecutive singles. Ryan Lavarnway and Luis Exposito each knocked in runs to put Portland up 3-2.
New Hampshire moved back in front in the top of the fourth inning. Matt Liuzza walked and Callix Crabbe doubled. Hechavarria then knocked both in with a single to left to give the Fisher Cats a 4-3 lead.
The Sea Dogs (70-71) moved back in front for good in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryan Khoury led off with a single and Page walked Matt Sheely and Spears to load the bases. Khoury scored on a sacrifice by Jose Iglesias to tie the game. Rizzo then belted game-winning homer to make it 7-4.
The bullpens pitched well the rest of the game. New Hampshire's Trystan Magnuson, Danny Farquhar, Alan Farina and Ron Uviedo each pitched a scoreless inning.
Kyle Fernandes worked 2.2 scoreless, turning it over to Daniel Turpen, who recorded the final four outs for his fourth save.
