Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders host the Edmonton Eskimos in the ENMAX Labour Day Classic on Monday, Sept. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at McMahon Stadium.
The Battle of Alberta will be renewed on Monday as the two teams square off for the second time this season and the final time in Calgary. The Stampeders prevailed over the Eskimos in their first meeting, a 56-15 win at McMahon on Aug. 15. The Stamps travel to Edmonton on Sept. 10 to conclude the season series, which sees the clubs play each other three times in four weeks.
The Stampeders sit atop the West Division after a 48-35 win over BC in Vancouver and look to extend their five-game winning streak. The Eskimos enter the week at 2-6 following a 17-14 victory over Saskatchewan this past weekend.
With 94 yards rushing last week, Stampeders running back Joffrey Reynolds now has 8,157 yards for his career and trails Kelvin Anderson by just 135 yards for first place on the Stamps' all-time career rushing list. Calgary pivot Henry Burris, who ranks first on Calgary's all-time passing list with 24,533 yards, enters the contest at 34,829 career passing yards and needs just two yards to surpass Dieter Brock for 10th on the CFL's all-time passing list.
Great seats for the game are still available by contacting the Stampeders' Ticket Office (403-289-0258 or toll free at 1-800-667-3267), Ticketmaster (403-777-0000 or online at Ticketmaster.ca) or by visiting any local Safeway or SportChek location.
Prior to kickoff, a moment of silence will be observed for Dr. Vince Murphy, a long-time Stamps physician. Murphy, who was associated with the Calgary Stampeders for more than a half-century, passed away on Aug. 23. He was 87.
During the national anthem, two CF-18 Hornets from the 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron, the Nighthawks, out of Cold Lake will perform a flyover of McMahon Stadium. At halftime, the Calgary Stampede Marching Band will perform for fans.
Labour Day is also the first opportunity for fans to purchase the 2011 Stampeder Outriders calendar, presented by Wisers Whiskey. For this game only, calendars will be sold for $15 and include a ticket to the Sept. 17 calendar-release party at Grey Eagle Casino. Following the release party, calendars will be sold at remaining Stamps home dates for $10.
The weekly StampsConnect contest series is back for this game. One lucky Stamps fan will win a SIRIUS Starmate 5 Plug-and-Play satellite radio with six months of free service for posting their Stamps-related photos on StampsConnect. Visit www.stampsconnect.com for more details.
