WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 29, 2010) - Drew Garcia hit an RBI single in the bottom the 13th inning to send the Dash to a 5-4 walk-off win over the Pelicans on Sunday evening at BB&T Ballpark. Myrtle Beach catcher Braeden Schlehuber dropped the ball while attempting to tag a sliding Seth Loman, giving Winston-Salem the series sweep and its 11th walk-off win of the season.

The Dash (32-28, 75-55) went ahead early on Nick Ciolli's first Carolina League home run. Ciolli hit a towering opposite field solo shot off Paul Clemens to give Winston the lead. Jason Bour, Garcia, and Kyle Shelton followed with consecutive singles after the homer. Shelton's base hit drove in Bour and put the Dash ahead 2-0.

Myrtle Beach (29-34, 55-78) tied the game in the fourth inning. Cody Johnson hit a two-run home run off Stephen Sauer to level the contest. The Pelicans grabbed the lead in the sixth when Johnson brought home Cole Miles on a single to left field, sending the visitors to a 3-2 lead.

Winston's deficit would not last long, however, as Jon Gilmore hit a two-run homer to left field and the Dash leapfrogged into the lead. It was Gilmore's fifth home run of the season and his first since June 25, a span of 222 at bats between long balls.

Sauer was terrific over seven innings, scattering six hits and three runs. He was relieved by Brandon Kloess, who threw a scoreless eighth inning but could not hold the lead in the ninth. Gerry Rodriguez led off the inning with a solo home run to left field to tie the game at four.

Twice Myrtle Beach had the leadoff man at first in extra innings, but both times the Pelicans were unable to advance him to scoring position.

After Winston-Salem struggled for five innings against Myrtle's relievers, the team finally broke through in the 13th. Thomas Berryhill gave up a leadoff single to Seth Loman, who had been hitless in his first five at bats of the day. He moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt, forcing the Pelicans to intentionally walk Jason Bour to set up a double play.

Garcia came to the plate with men at first and second base and one out. After taking the first pitch for a ball, he bounced a single into right field. Luis Sumoza came up throwing as Loman attempted to score from second base. The throw appeared to beat Loman, but the ball fell out of Schlehuber's glove as he placed the tag, allowing Loman to score. The Dash mobbed Garcia near the first base bag. It was the fifth time he has produced the game-winning hit for Winston-Salem this season.

The win went to Charlis Burdie (4-2), who pitched a scoreless top of the 13th inning. Berryhill (1-2) suffered the defeat after giving up one run on two hits in 1.2 innings.

The Dash racked up double-digit hits for the fourth consecutive ballgame and won the season series with the Pelicans 11-9.

The team gets a day off on Monday before starting the final regular season series at BB&T Ballpark against the Lynchburg Hillcats on Tuesday. RHP Nate Jones (10-5, 4.26) goes for his second straight win for the Dash. The Hillcats' pitcher has not yet been announced. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the audio broadcast starting at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com .

On Sunday afternoon, the Dash made a roster move as RHP Taylor Thompson was promoted to Winston-Salem from low-A Kannapolis. The former Auburn Tigers was 0-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 19 appearances between the Intimidators and Advanced-Rookie Great Falls. The Dash is now carrying 24 players on its roster, one below the Carolina League limit.
